Now that the Hitchin Area Committee no longer has planning powers, the time has come for Hitchin to have a voice of its own and the only statutory body appears to be a Town Council.  |

| If we have a Town Coucil I hope we also have a Mayor with a golden chain of office with a harlequined clown preceeding him or her througout the town bestowing goodwill and real ale to all the townsfolk. Then we could have a pied piper and a hawk and a permanent town crier and a pothole maintainer restoring their correct depth and diameter and a river skimmer (apparently when Hitchin's river was in full flow it was called the'Is' but when low or drained the 'Was'). Now that would restore civic pride!! |
